The California Section will award up to ten high school students $100 and a certificate. Applications must be submitted to office@calacs.org by March 31 and will be announced at our awards lunch.

Criteria: This award will be given to students who show initiative in the study of chemistry beyond classroom proficiency and who have shown an interest in pursuing a career in the chemical sciences.

Exceptional Student Award Winners

2020

Vivian Hir, Quarry Lane School, Dublin. An outstanding student who engaged in independent study and helped tutor fellow students in chemistry, biology and other subjects. She qualified to take the National Olympiad and performed well.
Braden Barber, Chico High School, Chico. An outstanding student who took independent enrichment classes and helped tutor other students. He will attend Cornell as a chemistry major.

2019

Connor Harris, Enterprise High School, Redding. An outstanding student who was active in many science and engineering clubs. He will attend UC Davis as a biochemistry major.

2018

Sherry Fan, Irvington High School, Fremont. An excellent student who tutored and helped her peers in the lab.
Jamie Lu,Maria Carrillo HS in Santa Rosa. Despite her family’s loss of the family home, she worked independently to qualify for the National Olympiad and performed well on that exam.
Drew Johns, Enterprise High School, Redding. An outstanding student who has helped tutor fellow students and was active in many science and engineering clubs. He will go on to MIT to study biomedical engineering.
