Speed Networking for Undergraduate and Graduate Students
February 29, 2016 at UC Berkeley: Register soon to reserve your place!
This is your opportunity to introduce yourself to the Bay Area network of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering professionals. The California Younger Chemists Committee (YCC), part of the American Chemical Society, is hosting a “speed dating” networking session. The YCC has recruited professionals who are interested in meeting with students. We guarantee individual interaction with at least ten professionals eager to connect with Berkeley undergraduates. There will be advice about internships and scholarships, as well as an insider perspective on careers in industry.
There will be both one-on-one time interactions, as well as a mixer for group interactions, to make sure everyone can meet with the people whose careers most interest them. This event is specifically for you: it is a chance to meet professionals in your field and make a lasting impression in a situation more comfortable than an interview or phone call. Get your business cards ready, and we hope you will join us for an evening of new friendships, intriguing discussions, and boundless possibilities.

Engineering Brandy:A high level walkthrough of the brandy making process, from receiving grapes to distillation
July 20, 2015
ACS Younger Chemist Committee and AICHE Young Professionals’ joint event “Engineering Brandy” was a huge success, with 80 attendees. The event took place on Monday July 20th at Two Mile Winery in Oakland, CA. It began with social time during which students, young professionals, and seasoned professionals from various industries mingled over delicious wine, appetizers, and even an assortment of cupcakes labeled and organized as a periodic table of the elements. Following social time, Konrad Miller of E&J Gallo gave an elaborate and interesting presentation of the brandy-making process. During Konrad’s presentation the audience was able to ask questions concerning Gallo’s brandy, the process, and even his favorite wine. It was a fascinating inside look into the brandy-making process.
ACS/AIChE Young Professionals Mixer May 19
We had a great time at the ThirstyBear Brewery! About 30 people from both ACS and AIChE came to socialize and learn what was going on in the field. We hope to see more of you at our next event. Sign up directly for the YCC mailing list to hear about events like this!
One of the goals of California ACS is to become more relevant to younger chemists and to dramatically increase the involvement of younger chemists in all levels of the ACS, including integrating young chemists into the profession.
