East Bay Mini Maker Faire - Sunday, October 21st, 2018

Our booth at the East Bay Mini Maker Faire featured the NCW 2018 theme activities, “Creating Oxygen to Breath in the Space Station” and “The Sun and Ultraviolet Light: Make Your Own UV Wristband.”  Do-It-Yourself science is a perfect fit at this event, which attracts 100+ “Makers” and over 5000 visitors each year.  We added solar panels to power the electrolysis demo, truly bringing outer space chemistry down to Earth.  Visitors took away hundreds of Periodic Table cards and copies of Celebrating Chemistry.

East Bay Mini Maker Faire (Park Day School, Oakland, CA - 21 October 2018)

This year’s NCW outreach activities were particularly popular with visitors, and kids especially appreciated the UV-detecting bracelets that they made for themselves.  We distributed approximately 3000 UV-detecting beads, along with some 2000 other decorative beads.  We were ably assisted by volunteers from UC Berkeley’s Alpha Chi Sigma chemistry fraternity.
